Safeguarding
Every person must be treated with dignity and care.
This public safeguarding commitment explains the conduct LIAM expects and how safety concerns should be handled.
Safe contact
Staff, volunteers and mentors should use approved communication, avoid secret or inappropriate relationships, never exchange favours for support and avoid being alone with a child where responsible safeguarding arrangements are absent.
Listen, do not investigate
Receive a concern calmly, do not promise secrecy, record only necessary facts and refer the concern promptly to the appropriate safeguarding lead, social worker, designated child-protection organisation or police.
Privacy has safety limits
Information should be shared only with people who need it for support, protection or lawful reporting. Imminent danger, suspected abuse or serious risk may require disclosure to emergency or protection services.
Report concerns appropriately
If a child may be abused, neglected, exploited or in immediate danger, contact Childline on 116, the South African Police Service on 10111, emergency services on 112 or an appropriate social worker or child-protection organisation.
Board adoption and training
This website summary is a public commitment. Before public programme enrolment, LIAM should formally adopt a detailed safeguarding policy, appoint a responsible lead, screen relevant workers and train all staff and volunteers.
